INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS

Air Brake Wear Indicator
CAUTION: Installation should be performed by a certified brake technician only:

  1. Chock wheels of vehicle in multiple positions.
     
  2. Start vehicle to build air pressure to 120psi., then release brakes to maintain full 120 psi. air pressure and shut vehicle off.
     
  3. Back off brake adjustment one brake chamber at a time until the slack adjuster is fully extended outward from the Brake Chamber.
     
  4. Clean the surface of the throw rod where the indicator will be installed (bottom 3" of the throw rod below the threaded portion).
     
  5. Apply a small amount of silicone adhesive to the inside wall of the indicator. Then install the indicator and ensure it is pushed to the bottom of the throw rod (see attachment images).
     
  6. Re-adjust the brakes in compliance with regulations of FMCSA regulation 393.53.
     
  7. Repeat the process on all axles with 30/30 Brake Chambers.
     
  8. Apply the maxi brakes.
     
  9. Leaving chock blocks in place, visually inspect all installed units to see the correct color codes are visible (see color values and photos below).
     
  10. Now the technician and driver can visually inspect & monitor all brake adjustment settings by color in between service intervals on a daily basis.


Green - In Adjustment (within 1" of throw)

Yellow - Adjustment Soon (within 2" of throw)

Red - Out of Adjustment (over 2" Out Of Service)
